I have never been one to be extremely eager and ready to move in the mornings. I like to wake up slowly and gradually. I am also not known for my superior planning and organization skills. As such, procrastination is high on my list of character traits.
So begins the final preparations. I have a comprehensive list of things to bring, and I have already started getting it all together. One would think it might be best to do it the night before, and I thought so too, but… It’s currently just after 8:45AM EST and my goal is to be out of here before 10AM. After reviewing the atlas, I am aiming to call it a night somewhere in mid-southern IL on I-64, possibly Mt. Vernon. The route of day 1 will be to get on I-70 W, and hook up with I-68 W, then I-67 S to Charleston, WV and then I-64 W. I will traverse the panhandle of Maryland, the western side of the Appalachians, and the states of West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.
The weather is currently rainy and overcast here in Maryland, but it supposedly will clear up in a few hours. I will post periodically through the trip at various stops (assuming I have working data service).
I am already missing Nancy and Blizzard, though I haven’t even left. I know the next time I take a trip of this magnitude, I want them both to come with.
Next post will be from somewhere on the road. Let the road trip begin!!
