Day 1 down. Almost 800 miles driven to Mt. Vernon, IL

It was a long, long day.

For the most part it was uneventful. The weather started out rainy and gray, but ended up nice and sunny by the afternoon. Today’s drive took me through western Maryland, Charleston, WV, and Louisville, KY.

The terrain actually started out hilly as much of today’s drive was through the Appalachians. Once I was past Kentucky it really started to flatten out. By Indiana it was flat and there were many farms. Just before getting to Illinois I was stopped by an accident that closed the road for an hour. It looked pretty bad.

Anyway, everything is going well. The car is performing great but already covered in bugs. I may have to get a car wash out here.

Tonight I’m at the Fairfield Inn which is fairly nice. The price was right and so was the location. I’m halfway to Denver so it’s looking like I should get there tomorrow. I’m really beat from a long day, so it’s time to sleep.
